I’m so full right now… 😊🎨🖌️
I’ve just come out of a creative vortex. So much was pouring out of me, I almost struggled to contain it—to stay present in this world and still perform my daily adult/mom/human tasks. 😄 When this kind of thing happens, it’s easy for me to disappear and do nothing else. Which, of course, is the luxury of a young, single, childless, non–bill-paying dreamer.
I am none of those things.
So it became a task in and of itself to answer this creative call and do so sensibly.
Here’s what unfolded over the last couple of weeks:
Finalized edits for the manuscript (yes, you read that right—holding the physical copy revealed things the computer never could. Self-publishing is a delicate process that requires patience, grace… and then more patience.)
Redesigned the cover for Book One
Ordered new print copies to review (trying not to feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning 😬)
So inspired, I developed covers for the rest of the series 😱🥹💜 — and they are gorgeous (see below)
Riding that wave, I redesigned my entire website—and my sweet Lord... It's stunning.
Naturally, new visual content flowed out of me: new videos, new images
Received a surprise message from Dawnn Lewis (A Different World)—because I live in LA and also my husband is amazing. 🥰 (Read the backstory and watch her lovely message below)
Connected with a Black-owned bookstore here that supports self-published, debut authors like me. I’ve been quietly fantasizing about having my book(s) on their shelves, so meeting the owner—and feeling her kindness and encouragement—meant a great deal. She even shared her contact information, and I’m looking forward to putting that paperback into her hands soon.
Began reading Book Two to start preparations for its release
Assigned all my ISBNs—meaning every iteration of all four books now has its own searchable identity in the book-sphere
Created barcodes for all four books so they could be properly incorporated into the cover designs
Like I said… self-publishing is a heck of a task to take on. But it’s also deeply rewarding, and this book is worth it. I’m loving every step—even the stubbed toes and trips—because I’m learning, growing, and discovering along the way.
I definitely need to do a separate post about the creative process—it was revelatory in ways I didn’t expect.
So proud of this spread.
