THE MUSIC OF THE ELEVATOR

I’ve created two playlists on Apple Music inspired by The Elevator.
One that underscores the series —
the mood, the tension, the pulse beneath it all.
And the other I call… The Hero’s Playlist.
If you’re a top-tier subscriber on Patreon and have read along with the audio, you’ve likely already experienced some of this music — carefully curated to accompany The Draft.
Some of it also found its way into The Vulture series.
If you know me, you know I’m also a singer with a background in musical theatre.
Music is like breath to me.
Storytelling? That’s the heartbeat — the blood in my veins.
Put those two together?
That’s life.
I've always loved film scores. I’m the person in the theater paying attention to the music supporting a scene just as much as the story unfolding onscreen. And if the score is powerful enough, I’m going home and downloading it immediately.
My library is filled with cinematic instrumentals — entire albums that exist purely to move a story forward without a single lyric.
Hans Zimmer.
John Williams.
Thomas Newman.
Quincy Jones.
Ludwig Göransson.
Terence Blanchard.
Michael Giacchino.
These are just a few of the composers who’ve shaped my creative instincts.
I’ve drafted countless scenes over the years with those scores looping in my headphones. Fully immersed. Intensely inspired.
So naturally, as I built The Elevator, I began searching for its sound. The sound of the saga.
It was actually one of the first things I did — back when all I had were a few crude AI images of my characters. In total mood-board fashion, I paired music with those early visuals and built a slideshow on my unpublished website.
And it was deeply effective. It allowed me to teleport to this underdeveloped world — fleshing it out word by word, line by line, chapter by chapter.
If you’ve visited my Books page, you may have noticed the “Play Atmosphere” button. That’s not decorative. It’s intentional. I want the exploration of that page to feel immersive — almost cinematic. For me, music isn’t background noise. It’s a companion to storytelling.
I’ve compiled a library of music that carries the overarching theme of the series — pieces that score specific arcs, certain emotional turns, even individual characters.
I listen to it often. Especially when I’m deep in edits or creating visuals for the world.
If you’ve ordered your copy of The Draft and are currently reading, The Underscore playlist could be a cinematic companion to your experience.
And The Hero’s Playlist?
That one will hit differently once readers get their hands on The Landing.
Fair warning — it’s not background music.
It’s supercharged. Gym-floor. Confidence-on-level-1000 kind of energy. The kind of playlist that might make you pause mid-chapter, throw a towel over your shoulder, and put that New Year's resolution to shame.
Reading with it may be ill-advised. A party could break out. Or you may feel develop cosmic-level confidence to go change the world.
You’ve been warned.
But if you’re reading The Draft right now and would like to truly step into the character's shoes…
Try pressing play (volume low) at Chapter 8.
Right after:
“Bite me.”
